Kinda seems like there’s a pattern of ascribing membership to the “villain of the year” club to every mass shooter in the immediate aftermath of the event. Whether or not a mass shooter does actually fit that category for a change (if it wasn’t clear from above, they almost never did) perhaps we ought to ask ourselves why this narrative keeps getting pushed, why we’re so quick to help repeat it, and what the people pushing it in the first place hope to gain by it. Are they simply trying to inform people about the identity and politics as a matter of fact, a thing they swear up and down they loathe every other time, or is this a concerted effort to further villify their current target groups and distract from every other topic on the subject of gun violence? Every second spent on “oh my god trans!” with regard to this story is one not spent on gun control, for isntance.
