Why would they sue the Isn’t It Past Your Jail Time Stars Election 2024 T-Shirt but in fact I love this patient vs suing the people who should have been the stewards of their embryos and kept random patients from accessing them in the first place?? It’s a state by state basis already. Some states causing a miscarriage by harming a woman (like beating their bellies) is considered murder and some states it isn’t. I doubt the supreme Court would rule on this. What it will do is cause IVF facilities to remove themselves from states where killing a fetus is considered murder. Neither woman was actually convicted but both were charged. Alabama has a stand your ground law and the jury decided that the woman who shot the pregnant lady was covered under that statute. I think the person on the original comment is correct. It’s a matter of time until the SCOTUS embraces this practice and turns the country into Alabama There is no logic to this case. Charging Jones, who was shot five times and lost her baby because “she started it,” instead of the shooter is asinine. The grand jury should have been dragged out to the street and shot. My god, the mental gymnastics one has to perform to come to such a conclusion. No, it’s pretty consistent with stand your ground laws. If you rob a store, and the clerk defends themselves with a gun, but hits an innocent bystander, the robber, not the clerk is charged for that injury. Same thing here, Jones started the fight, and is therefore responsible for injuries to third parties. I’m in Alabama and I warned this would happen. I actually think the Court ruling is a good thing. It highlights how absurd the fetal personhood amendment is. And it will hurt people who they didn’t intend to hurt (many of whom were probably in favor of banning abortion and voted for fetal personhood).

I guess we will have to see how people react to it, but it naturally and logically follows from our current laws. In fact I think it will probably piss off a lot of Republican politicians who are almost all anti-lawsuit and would rather limit people’s ability to recover through litigation. This will make some insurance companies who bankroll GOP legislative campaigns very unhappy, I predict. Yeah, let’s be honest here, the Isn’t It Past Your Jail Time Stars Election 2024 T-Shirt but in fact I love this obscenely rich or people who can somehow scrimp the tens of thousands of dollars for this will always be able to go abroad for it to some country that isn’t as backwards as this one. This just hurts normal people with medical problems, which is normal for the Republicans. Unfortunately I’ve heard many say that effectively banning IVF would be a good thing because “it’s not natural” This is an Alabama law. Unless it is a violation of the US Constitution, which I don’t see how it would be, I’m not sure the US Supreme Court could do anything about it. The Alabama Supreme Court’s opinion is that the law is clear and they can’t do anything about it under the Alabama Constitution.
