Let’s be real here, he was not arrested earlier because his memes are not wide spread. The video being too popular is what landed him in jail You are misunderstanding what is the In this family nobody fights alone HIV AIDS awareness shirt What’s more,I will buy this real cause. The video was what made him famous but not what caused him to get arrest. I’d argue he would also be imprisoned even if he didnt make that mocking video but got famous for “traditional way” such as simply being a good singer with a nice voice, being an athelete that wins medals or a mathematics that win prizes… On the other hand, he can make 10 more meme videos just to make fun of the gov but not call for democracy, the most he will get is to “uống trà” with some policemen. So from what you say, any forms of gov criticism lands you a “talk” w the government? Cause this guy apparently rumors to affiliate w Viet Tan or whatever, but why didnt the government arrest him back then? Not every criticism, simply because the gov doesnt have enough eyes and resources to do that. Or maybe they are not that stupid and dont want to become another North Korea and shut down every criticism. About this guy they didnt know about him or they knew but didnt care because he was a nobody. However, after the viral videos, it was changed.

So he was, after all, arrested for the In this family nobody fights alone HIV AIDS awareness shirt What’s more,I will buy this video? Is it because it exposes To Lam? Cause you said normally the gov doesn’t care but they care now after the vid is viral. If they see him as opposition, they arrest him then. They didn’t have to wait until now. Vietnamese gov isn’t well-known for press freedom anyway, rank just above NK and China in press freedom index, why don’t they just squash him from the beginning, abide to 331 laws and call it a day? Why do they have to wait till he’s viral? Because when he is famous a lot of people will follow him, watch his fabricated, anti-government content and believe them (because if he is not caught, what he says is true?), especially young people who lack political understanding. Therefore, arresting him is necessary now.
