it could be a generational thing but I agree – weird. Could be a controlling thing, as well, and the one text you quoted is actually mildly threatening. Many abusers are “great guys” in social settings. Are you the only person he does it to? Is he closer in age to her or to you? “I really love her like a daughter” … and she probably sees you as a mother figure, so he probably sees you as a mother-in-law figure and wants your approval, especially if she’s as young as your friend is. That doesn’t sound weird at all. I mean if he starts to get inappropriate then yeah, but he may just be trying to make friends with someone who means something to his fiance. it’s not inherently weird, but personally I don’t text with my friends s/o and i would find it very weird if they just started texting me one day. Mostly because, there’s really nothing to talk about except our mutual friend and unless it’s like planning a surprise or something for them we just don’t usually need to communicate without our mutual there
