30 days PTO a year & reasonably good medical aren’t offered by UberEats either. I won’t blast my a/c on the In A World Where You Can Be Anything Be Kind Elephant Mom T-Shirt besides I will buy this pizza either. Just retiring at that age with an actual pension AND the nearly free healthcare you get from Tricare is amazing. Plus loads of perks for buying a home or going to school if you want. Yeah. It’s not for everyone long term but people act like there are no legitimate benefits to it and there certainly are and quite a few at that. If I wear the same clothes as everyone else, show up on time and at the right place for 20 years I get a pension And most people choose their career path based on other factors besides the opinions of strangers. It’s not hard to find all sorts of examples where the US has let down veterans. That said, some people claim there’s a total calloused disregard and lack of a support. Tons of career vets in my family. When they get out of service in their 30s/40s, they have a pretty reasonable medical care and pension. VA loans and the GI bill are nothing to scoff at either. It’s not a bad life at all. But your points are still well taken. We used to. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, when I practically lived in airports, I bought whatever meals or drinks our uniformed people ordered. I was humbled almost to tears by how profusely they thanked me, as if I were making an equivalent service or sacrifice. Lip service. Every time enhancing care and benefits comes up certain groups are all ‘who’s gonna pay for that?’ Usually the same groups going all onanistic about military displays at sportsball events.
