Not to mention your own money you spend on your classroom because there isn’t enough funds. Also there is lots of overtime that isn’t paid at overtime rate, just your normal pay rate because ratio can’t be met if you leave. The work is beyond exhausting and I’m burnt out from the lack of work and life balance. I get paid less than my boyfriend, who doesn’t have any formal quals, while I have been training since 18, have an ECE diploma and am working as a degree educator in my centre. Teachers. They often have to spend their own money for resources, and it’s not only acceptable but expected they would do that. I don’t really know of many/any other workplace that requires you to spend your own money, especially when you don’t get paid appropriately.

Lower tier medical workers. Home healthcare, NAs, MAs, and pretty much anybody that works in surgery other than the I’m so freaking merry skull buffalo plaid christmas vibes T-Shirt But I will love this surgeon. As a whole, all workers are underpaid. Our productivity has skyrocketed, but the only thing that has gone up are corporate profits. The destruction of unions, erosion of workers rights, suppression of the minimum wage, non-compete agreements, illegal 1099s, all of it is intentional and it effects every worker in America. EMTs and Paramedics (There’s a large difference in scope of practice between the 2 so pay will be different between the both titles). The pay range is so broad from state to state it’s absolutely ridiculous. Metro MN and outlying areas seem to pay decently where I work but I’ve heard of wages for both in other states well below $20/hr. Software engineers. The world would stop if we went on strike. We saved your asses during the pandemic. Without us you wouldn’t have had Zoom, Slack, Doordash, or a fucking operating system. We are the real essential workers.
