He looked at me very confused so the next time I was at his I took a mini sewing kit with me & repaired a bunch of stuff. He was in awe We’re just not taught to look after things anymore!! Completely agree with you about this throwaway culture being absolutely awful. Exactly! My dad taught me the attitude of “fix it” rather than throw it away. It is frustrating though how many modern items are designed so that it’s nigh-on impossible to fix/replace a broken component and therefore force people to buy a whole new item. (and don’t get me started on disposable vapes…)

On a positive note the I’m Malicious Mean Scary Snuggly Duckling Tangled Shirt and by the same token and idea of “repair cafes” seems to be gradually gaining popularity. Both of my (retired) in-laws volunteer at one and they love the challenge of figuring out how to mend someone’s clock / sewing machine / knitwear / toy etc etc etc. I hope they become much more widespread in time. I get the mentality of working towards a holiday but I also think there is a lot to be said for just learning to enjoy the every day. You’ll be much happier if you can manage that! I rarely need to repair my clothes because nothing goes wrong with them the vast majority of the time. But a few months ago, I got a rip/hole in my trousers – the bum area, but not on a seam. I sewed it up but unfortunately it looked really bad and unwearable in public 🙁 I guess sewing it up only really works when it’s on a seam? TBF no one knows what they did. Maybe he inherited the chair, maybe he just found it, maybe he bought it a while back before people had the awareness of plastic waste
