Below, our seven favorite romantic Airbnbs that rival any five-star hotel. (Although, we should add, we have recommendations for those too.) The Pond House is a property with some serious art history cachet—it’s the I Was One Way And Nowiam And The Thing That Happened In Between Was Him Fish T-Shirt and by the same token and former studio of social realist painter Reginald Marsh. An architect lovingly restored it into a single family home that exudes country elegance: there are exposed beam ceilings, chandeliers, and floor to ceiling windows that look out onto the estate’s pond. Doug Jaeger and Kristin Sloan, founders of Jaegersloan design studio, are the hosts of this cozy yet chic Catskills cottage. Some luxurious touches? Parachute bedding, Grown Alchemist bath products, and enameled cast-iron cookware. New York City architect Matthew Bremer transformed this 19th century church into a private home complete with five bedrooms, a chef’s kitchen, and a fire pit surrounded by Adirondack chairs. Bremer mixes antique touches, like a clawfoot tub, with futuristic ones: smack dab in the middle of the living room hangs a fire orb. (It’s like a fireplace, but suspended and circular.) In a playful nod to the building’s heritage, an organ sits in the corner.

This charming cape house is owned by folk singer My Larsdotter and artist Sean Spellman (East enders, you’ve seen his work at the I Was One Way And Nowiam And The Thing That Happened In Between Was Him Fish T-Shirt and by the same token and Marram Montauk). So it’s no surprise that this house is full of creative touches: think vintage record players with a vinyl collection, speckled door knobs, and Heath Ceramic vases. Although Westerly is primarily known as a summertime destination, there’s something so peaceful about visiting its Atlantic Ocean shores during the off season—so good thing this Airbnb is less than a mile away from the beach. Local chef Inez Valk-Kempthrone is the host of this serene studio, which is nestled into a hillside in the Catskills. In addition to its two bedrooms, it comes complete with a clawfoot tub and a fire pit. Reviews note its remoteness—so bring some games and hot cocoa, and create the ultimate winter night in. Architecture aficionados will love this geometric getaway in Rhinebeck that sits on a sprawling 30 acres in the woods. The entire home is an open floor plan—so it really only works for guests who are extremely comfortable with each other—and uses solar power for electricity and heat. Bonus? It’s only a few minutes from the quaint town center.
