The only children having sex reassignment surgery are intersex (which is not ok and many intersex children are speaking out now as adults) Trans folk want life saving medical care – from therapy to hormones/puberty blockers and social support. Not all trans people want surgery and those who do are generally supportive of waiting till you are older. Bottom surgery is fairly hard to get and almost impossible as a minor, but there are likely a handful of cases that it might happen to someone who is almost an adult. Most trans minors are just changing their names and dressing as their gender, but sometimes HRT is given to teenagers, especially those that were put on puberty blockers. Going through their agab puberty wildly increases the risk of suicide, and puberty blockers and HRT are a real and appropriate medical treatment for that. If something lowered suicide risk in people as much as transitioning does for many trans people, it would be called a wonder drug. Also, we can’t wait to give people puberty blockers until they’re 18 because it completely defeats the purpose of them. You can’t stop a puberty that’s already happened.
