You are super super lucky nothing came of it. Kids with eczema on the cheeks can get infections much easier than if they didn’t have eczema because the skin is broken. Skin on the lips is super thin and it’s also prone to infection. Do not let anyone kiss your baby and especially not on thin skin or active eczema places because that is a great way to transmit disease. I would suggest a conversation with your spouse and FIL about it. Do a little research, print some articles on the subject, and tell them this is what the pediatrician told you. Always blame the pediatrician. That takes you off the hook for sticking up for your baby and no one is going to argue with “the pediatrician”. Here is an example: “the pediatrician said it’s the worst season for RSV and flu he’s ever seen and said to keep visitors to direct caretakers only until she’s had all her shots”. Here is another example: “the pediatrician was shocked he kissed my girl on her lips. He said it’s a sure fire way for her to get lip infections and that sometimes people don’t even know they are carrying an infection”. Here is another example: “the pediatrician said old cribs can be dangerous for some babies and only to use the new cribs with the standard guidelines, so we really appreciate your generosity but can’t accept your but thank you so much!”.

And all these people who don’t have to pay any consequences for possibly putting your baby in danger or, God forbid, getting her sick can all just go suck it.
