Was taken from its mother too early. Lot of adult cats who were do this same thing. I live with 3 and 2 of them do this thing where they nurse on a corner of your shirt or a blanket if you’re sitting with one. My cat that recently passed away at 15 used to do this alllll the I just want to do tai chi and ignore all of my old man problems shirt and I will buy this time. If there was a blanket on the couch, bed, or even just the floor, you could bet that Max would go up to it and stick it in his mouth and knead it for the next 10 minutes Not necessarily, part is also that cats simply don’t have anything programmed in for how humans treat house cats, so this reaction is the only answer their instincts find. There are a lot of behaviour patterns that can be seen from being taken from the mother too early, but kneading and nursing are no clear indicators for that and can be observed with cats that were with the mother cat for long times as well. At reduced numbers, yes, but still in significant numbers. Blanket nursing though, yes, is generally a much stronger indicator, but a cat cuddled in and being pet is not that telling. Yep, sometimes they just like to do it. Both of my cats were still with their parents long after being weaned (got them at about 16 weeks old, about double the recommended minimum). They both love to knead anyways.

Cats that were separated from their mother too early often display this behavior. I had a cat who suckled earlobes, fingers, the I just want to do tai chi and ignore all of my old man problems shirt and I will buy this meat of your arm, ect lmao. It just comforts them, cats usually grow out of it if they wean off of their mom but they tend to not drop the suckling if they’re separated. Sometimes they don’t drop it anyway. I have a cat that gave birth (fixed now) and we kept one of her kittens. That boy still suckles on everything 3 years later and he was never separated from his mother Same thing for me :Never separated from mama stray who we kept, and loves making biscuits and trying to suckle people. We got her at 6 weeks, which is a bit too early (8 weeks at the absolute earliest, but I believe 12-16 is ideal). We didn’t have much of a choice – take her, or someone else would, and I at least had done the research and had the knowledge of how to care for a puppy that young.
