Occasionally I give the odd one away or make them as presents for people, but I don’t have the patience to set up an Etsy or whatever and sell them. My fiancee is a hospice nurse, so when she takes a few into work, people sometimes feel a bit guilty taking one. Especially when family members have small kids who do grabby hands at the cute dinos/animals/flowers lol. And I guess it helps a bit. The kids have a happy memory, and they’re distracted just long enough to give the rest of the family some quality time with the patient.

Such a sweet little act of kindness. I believe octopuses are especially great for newborns in the NICU because for the first 9 months, the only toy they had was the umbilical cord. Therefore if their little hands find the important tubes and wires, they’ll tug on them, and that can be dangerous. Soft stuffed tentacles are a much better alternative that scratches the same itch for them! From one of those families, thank you so much. Our kiddo spent his first months in hospital and they gave us two little knitted hearts, one for us and one him so that when we weren’t able to be there it felt more like we were. I still have those three years later, as well as the cute crochet octopus he got from the picu in another hospital. People like you bring a tiny bit of sunshine 🩷
