It is always “you’re A or you’re B” You’re not allowed to agree with some of A and some of B even though that might be a completely reasonable opinion to have. It’s like the same people who just want to embrace solidarity with kids in Gaza, but they don’t offer any solution or understanding why they get hurt. Centrism is not a position, it is the absence of a position. You don’t actually look at an issue and draw your conclusions; you let others draw their conclusions and put yourself “somewhere in the middle”. Politics isn’t static. It changes between time and spaces. If you were a centrist regarding women’s rights in Afghanistan 100 years ago, that’d make you a far right extremist in America today. When the question is, say, “should we have a universal basic income”, then “I think both sides make good points” is a non-answer. It’s a yes or no question. Should we do it or not? That’s why centrism is commonly seen as a cowardly position.

The latter just isn’t 100% blindly loyal to either side, and to an extreemist that makes them a threat. Tepid centrism only helps oppressors, nationalists, fascists. Centrists position themselves on a false moral high ground to avert personal criticism or conflict, because they are not personally affected by the struggles between the right and those who the right would abuse.
