We still love it but it was a game we played without it seeming a game. Did your guy ever actually cook together or hope he’d join in? At a guess he’d be couchin it.. Added that it sounds like you’ve tried addressing that, I can see this being a final straw. I know some ppl just can not handle cooking and food prep. They get overwhelmed and some just have bad experience from bungling it before so now they have no confidence. Hell, some ppl have lefit trouble picking up after themselves, and it has nothing to do with being lazy. This guy can work on those as he can or find someone that helps him where he is lacking. Doesn’t mean it has to be you or you should deal with it. 60 hours a week and kids is a lot.

I can’t cook but I can earnestly throw food together and 5 times out of 7 it works out okay. I clean, I keep stuff mostly organized. Since I clean when upset I leave myself small pockets of chaos. I can do laundry, google/YouTube how to do shit I don’t know how to do, and I keep a routine about cleaning/organizing. Nothing is worse than an adult that needs to be told how to accomplish every step of normal life. Like, its one thing to want to know what tasks the newcomer to the house should do (like i dont trust others with my dishwasher because then things are just put away wrong) and a whole other to not do anything. I mean, I can cook, I’ve written a whole ass cookbook, and I still can’t poach an egg right. Im assuming the pushback you’re getting comes from the detail that eggs Benedict is not a beginner recipe, even when it comes from a recipe subscription box. That said, his inability to cook doesn’t sound like the issue here. You listed a number of examples in which he failed to take initiative and solve the problem himself. Even with the breakfast situation, I can think of several options off the top of my head of how he could have effectively brought you breakfast in bed (ordering take out, picking a simpler recipe and practicing it, suggesting other things he could do for you instead, etc). You don’t need that burden in your life and you’re not wrong to break up.
