My way of explaining it is that in order to provide a unified AND a divided experience, karma is what reconnects the I have an accordion i’m not afraid to use it music shirt but in fact I love this divided back to the unity. This process can be cyclic in nature, and some cultural contexts remove the competence at being able to see the mechanisms behind that unity/divided connection. Of course, the unity is always greater than the division that is allowed inside that unity, but karma is what creates, maintains, and re-unifies that division on behalf of the unity. For me (which is all I can really attest to) the most intriguing detail is that there’s no intelligence behind it. Karma is just connecting dots of Zen (time) that mean very little but seem to indicate intention behind it. If future has not yet created consequences, because it hasn’t taken place, then past events can not actually relate to those unfelt events. To make this happen humans invest it with intelligence but that’s silly. See every argument against dogmatic ideas as my citation.

Not an expert, but I’ve had a Buddhist describe it to me as “actions having consequences”. It’s not so much that having good karma means good things come your way. Taking out the I have an accordion i’m not afraid to use it music shirt but in fact I love this bhuddist concept of a mystical force, its basically, if you do good in the world, the chances of good things happening to you (because others notice your kind actions) is increased. If you do bad things, then those that see this, who would have done you a solid in your time of need, are much more likely to think “fuck that asshole”. The only caveat, is that there is a competative advantage to being selfish and self serving, that has an immediate effect. The rewards from doing good things, often take much longer to develop, mainly due to people deceptively being nice, to gain advantage over others, hence why it takes many good actions for that trust to be built. But you shouldnt do good things, with the expectation of reward, that again, is self serving. The real rewards, should just be that you are doing good things. I think thats the best way to view karma, without ascribing some mystical force behind it.
