Often times solutions are limited to just two things and there is no position that aligns in the centre. Because of this centrists are often seen as fence sitters. Actual centrism is good. But a hell of a lot of self-identified “centrists” are just extremely uninformed and unengaged people who don’t like either side of the political spectrum–or worse, consider themselves to be above it all. Some of the absolutely stupidest things I hear comes from so-called “centrists” who haven’t taken the time to form any solid worldview that can inform their ideology. I think I prefer people who are less centrist in either direction, but not extreme–people who are principled and hold well-informed views, but are not partisan hacks who refuse to compromise or consider modifying their stances. I would like to prefer centrists, but I just haven’t met a lot that aren’t either milquetoast or extremely ignorant.

It’s insane… There’s a type of political commentary show format called a “common sense show”. The host will present him or herself as a centrist and then proclaim that everyone else is weird, or as you put it, “far left and far right”. It’s really just a tactic used to invalidate the opinions of others. You’re guilty of it and it’s not a good look. On the right, Bill O’Reilly is a good example. He was just a smug bastard. On the left would be Jon Stewart. Stewart, in my opinion, did a MASSIVE amount of damage to political discourse because he took it to the extreme with just straight up making fools of people. While funny, it REALLY played into peoples’ love of self. The viewer gets to sit there smugly thinking how smart they are as they sit their fatass on a couch. Because the far right are anti refugee, immigrants, racist, anti women, want to keep the poor poor, the rich rich, keep polluting the planet, anti gay, want to remove people’s rights like abortion, or marriage between consenting adulting, often base their morals on a 1000s year old book which approves slavery and rape and pure hate. Whereas the fat left is pushy and annoying and a little weird but wants to save the planet, help people, give people rights. Sitting in the middle is acting like these 2 are equally bad.
