I went from literally only moving the amount it took me to get from my car to the train, the half block to the office, and the distance to the bathroom to consistently weightlifting 1-1.5 hours daily. This means fewer sick days on my end, I’m more focused, and fewer potential health risks from sitting on my ass all day. I have friends who are remote employees and they giggle about putting their mouse in their pocket and walking around their house to fool their employers. Hasn’t it been official? I feel like remote employees are much happier and have more energy because they didn’t spend most of it driving to work. while I dont disagree I had some friend that told me they hated remote work because it turn into meeting over meeting without being productive.. This does sound like a very stereotypically American problem. Not that I don’t want to work remotely (or others around here). But these long commutes are crazy to me. Most people I know commute between 5 and 30 minutes. Some by bike, others by car. Mine (before I went back to Uni) was like 10 minutes. That really didn’t cause any stress what so ever. I didn’t like the atmosphere at the job, so that sucked. But I personally actually like the peer pressure to get to work before 8AM. I don’t know if I’d take care of myself as well if it weren’t for that. Honestly, the first few months of not having to get up at 06:00, commuting for 1.5 hrs, and being home at 18:30, were bliss.

I was happier until we entered non-stop crunch the I Don’t Like You Either Funny Halloween Candy Corn T-Shirt Apart from…,I will love this last few months and cancelled all meetings. I literally never see anyone and everyone is too busy to chat. Before we used to have daily meetings, would do virtual hangouts to chat strategy or troubleshoot issues, but now I am just lonely and stressed. I would think that anyone that was anti-social would be happy to not working with anyone. It makes sense. That is one of the draws of IT, most people in that career field hate other people so remote work is great for them. Provided that there are no kids around. I had to go back to the office because frequent moody periods of my toddler were real concentration killers sometimes. I genuinely believe it does for most. It’s really annoying seeing everyone suggesting otherwise. My friends in the tech industry have told me personally they do a lot less work. I have nothing against people working from home, but I also don’t believe there’s zero impact on productivity. I work in a pharmacy where our order entry techs have been working from home for the past 2 years and their productivity has went so far down the toilet and no one can do anything about it because they’ve all threatened to quit if they’re made to return to the office, and management won’t call their bluff. They don’t start keying orders until after cutoff and everybody else who’s job is impossible to do remotely feels like the remote workers are making more money because of what they save in gas and childcare, and they hold everyone else up and we stay later because of it. I hear a lot of talk about how companies should pay people for their commute to work but I’m sure I’ll get downvoted simply for saying that remote workers are saving money by not commuting to and from the office.
