I don’t know, I see through that one he is holding up which says to me the I Choose Violence Shirt but in fact I love this birds are nesting against the weatherproofing. As acidic as bird poop is… that and bugs like bird ticks and mites getting through the weatherproofing is my concern. Good point about the gutters though! Under there you should have felt or membrane, which is pretty hard wearing. I’d maybe be more concerned about vermin getting into the nest and digging g through it. Birds nesting and pooping under solar panels in Arizona has caused roofs to cave in. Wind and rain will not wash away major poop pile ups, especially in places that don’t get a lot of rain. Innovation might consider the sheer amount of bird shit on your roof and property. Make one and put it in a tree. Bat boxes are better.

Bird mites are awful. We had a pipe hole in our wall and birds nested in it. Had the I Choose Violence Shirt but in fact I love this house redecorated and they filled the hole. Six months later, no birds and the mites got desperate. Mites crawling out the vents looking for blood snacks. My highschool was absolutely infested with swallows that built their nests along the edges of the roofs around campus. The side walks were caked in bird shit and eventually their mites got into the buildings which required fumigation. Birds are great but I’d rather they nested away from my house. Had a house in Arizona. It can get very flat there. Our house was the tallest object for miles and birds congregated on it. I used to think it was neat, but see I also had a tile roof. The tar paper beneath the tile is what actually waterproofs your roof. Found out the hard way bird shit is highly acidic, and will melt tar paper over time as it gets rained on. Usually birds find places high enough so that their children are away from predators. Wouldn’t this make it easier for lizards or house lizards, snakes(maybe) and cats to eat their children?
