You did the I Am W.E.I.R.D Wonderful Exciting Interesting Real Different Shirt Furthermore, I will do this right thing. Dude wanted a mom, some how he survives on his own but gives you weapon used incompetence. I’m disappointed you gave him 8 months. Tell your gf he is on the market. So, first off I’m a guy I feel I should disclose that on this sub. But all in all I think you were right to dump him in general, but not just because he can’t cook. Your overall story paints a picture of a guy you’ve been trying to integrate into your life. You’ve spoken with him several times about being generally helpful, or at least not creating additional burdens for you to handle around the house and he has failed to meet those. For those reasons, after 8 months I think you’re totally justified in dumping him. Now… Onto the actual event, I do think that could have been handled better (possibly). I’m somebody who is not a great cook. I can kind of cook, and I’ve done the semi-prepped meal boxes where you put things together, but even those can be challenging or stressful for someone who doesn’t cook.

At the I Am W.E.I.R.D Wonderful Exciting Interesting Real Different Shirt Furthermore, I will do this end you say “All he has to do is poach an egg” I’ve never poached an egg in my life, but I know from cooking shows that it can actually be quite tricky to do just right I’d be worried about F’ing that up. So I guess the main take-away of the second part of my message is, maybe work on your communication around cooking if that’s a skill you want your next boyfriend to develop assuming he doesn’t have it already. TL;DR: Overall you’re right, but you could have handled the birthday breakfast situation a bit better. But the poor handling of that specific situation doesn’t negate 8 months of not listening to your needs or attempting to actually work on skills that you find important. He can cook. He’s just doing it so badly that you’ll do it forever. You dodged a bullet dumping him and, if he drops this act, marginally improved the world by not giving into this.
