I am still bitter about it years later, even MORE bitter because the people who did get it moved on two years later. I know this because we ended up getting a house further down the same street. Still stuck in the 70s but no wall hatch which was… disappointing. they probably bricked it in. i like the 70s features i grew up with, so many houses i look at are whitewashed these days and sterile.

Yep, my mum has one going between the I am sweet kind shy and innocent for heaven’s sake stop laughing stitch shirt Besides,I will do this kitchen and dining room, as a kid it was only used on Christmas Day to pass the dinner through. Both of my childhood houses had one. My Nan had hers made into a fish tank, so you could see both sides, pretty cool! My nan had a hatch from the kitchen to the dining room, and a hatch from the kitchen to the kind of pantry (like an under the stairs cupboard full of tins and dry food). Nice one for bringing back some boss old memories! My step-mother’s house had one. I only ever remember it being used on occasions such as birthdays or Christmas. My MIL still has one, doesn’t really use it but now my wife and I have a 2 year old he loves shouting at us through it when we stay there and are cooking. I’ve seen them in school friends’ houses when I was a kid in Essex in the 80s… But not elsewhere or more recently Also from the NW and had a hatch in the house. Parents had the whole downstairs of the house renovated (+extension). It was all really well done but I do miss the hatch for the same reason. My grandparents’ house has one between the kitchen and the dining room. Very useful. Wouldn’t apply in my house, but would happily have one if it did.
