Having never been in a long term relationship I feel like I’m judged or that something might be wrong with me. But when I’m not concerned about what other people think I’m pretty content. In the last year I decided I don’t want to ever have kids and that has been liberating. I have a cat who I love and will likely get another soon. I just left an extremely toxic work situation for a MUCH better job that I am loving now, which required me to move cities on a moments notice and was made very possible by my singleness. I haven’t dated much but I’ve had a lot of really cool life experiences none of my friends or family has had. I’m realizing now I likely always will be single and have probably always chosen this for a reason. If that’s how things are going, I’m done waiting and I’m going to start forging my own path my own way, same as my coupled friends forge a path together. Mine is a little quieter but why does it need to be any less fulfilling? I’ve been working a lot on staying present in the moment and I’m starting to become convinced that if you can’t do that it doesn’t matter if you are coupled up, having a partner won’t make you any happier, and if you can be present being in a relationship doesn’t matter because you are already content. That’s how I’m feeling right now anyways, as long as I can keep the depression and anxiety at bay.
