You are obviously the Houston Astros MLB Take October 2023 Postseason shirt besides I will buy this best for the job, call their bluff. Thell them they are offering the job to the best candidate, so they need to pay accordingly. Tell them you are already getting $93k and due for a pay increase. You won’t consider an offer under $105k. Some pathetic HR person will feel smug they got you for $1,000 less than the top of the range. Unless you are miserable where you are now, or this new role opens up a big opportunity for you and it’s worth a pay cut, just counter with the salary you want. You have nothing to lose. Completely reasonable to ask and stand firm politely. It’s also very possible the supervisor does want to pay you what you are asking and HR won’t let them. Sometimes they can fight for you and win, sometimes they can’t. But that’s the supervisors problem, not yours and you shouldn’t take more than you want or are worth. “Thanks so much for the offer, I feel there are a lot of benefits to the position and your Institution. Your dedication to (policy, cause, etc.) certainly make the role seem worthwhile and tempting.

Unfortunately, I’ve amassed experience that puts me in the Houston Astros MLB Take October 2023 Postseason shirt besides I will buy this salary range of $110k elsewhere and while I do look forward to a career with your Institution, I cannot accept a rate so far off that amount. In academia an $8k pay reduction might be worth it if its a more prestigious institution and the program has way more resources The prestige argument is virtually never true. I was at two Ivy league universities for 23 years and heard that argument from HR many many times. Yet I never saw it pan out to greater salaries for subsequent jobs for colleagues or post-docs. If you want to argue that greater resources = more internal funding or grant support that can lead to more publications then I can agree that can be helpful. But the prestige argument is pure HR bull.
