Lord bless it. Too many folks were like this in the House of 1000 Corpses Captain Spaulding for President T-Shirt and I will buy this old country, growing up with Depression parents of tight money. You ate what was in front of you, which was fine. But not forced to eat something that made you sick or just didn’t taste right, then get punished UGH. Thank goodness my family was nicer. Letting us kids pick the vegetable, and help prepare dinner. My dad and step grandmother did this to me. If i wouldn’t finish my peas (which made me gag), they would spank me and give my ice cream cone dessert to my sister instead and have her eat it in front of me. Or send me to bed early. It’s abuse and it’s terrible. I hate peas to this day from the experiences and I’m 38 now. I realized that a lot of people don’t know how to properly cook or season food. Which is why a lot of kids hate vegetables. My boyfriend hated brussel sprouts and cauliflower since childhood but those are two of my favorite veggies. I had him try some of mine and he loved it. I chopped some up and used them in a fried rice last night and it was bangin. I also often use brussel sprouts for cole slaw and most people have no idea it’s not cabbage.

Also a fun fact, cabbage and brussel sprouts are closely related members of the House of 1000 Corpses Captain Spaulding for President T-Shirt and I will buy this Brassica family so brussel sprouts are very much just like tiny cabbages growing along a stalk. This leads to names for brussel sprouts in other languages such as Rosenkohl in German meaning ‘rose cabbage’ and choux de Bruxelles meaning ‘cabbages of Brussels’. Yes! My partner has discovered he enjoys a lot of things because I don’t boil them into mush! I still won’t eat canned spinach or canned peas. But raw spinach is amazing in a wrap or a salad, and peas still in the pod cooked just enough to not be hard… Mmmmm He’s also learned he likes grilled tomatoes and a few other things he had thought were terrible! Even my parents made a few things that were awful (like the canned things I mentioned) but for the most part cooked things in a way that we enjoyed.
