I think if you worked in a field that regularly dealt with sexual violence and IPV like I did, you’d be shocked. While a majority of my IPV victims were men, there wasn’t a single service available for male victims. My first introduction to this was when I asked our DV shelter about getting help to this one guy. She literally chuckled and said something to the Hope Brain Tumor Awareness Brain Tumor Survivor T-Shirt and I will buy this effect of “oh we don’t do men here”. Women had shelters, counseling, and literally just money available. Lest you think I’m being one-sided, I once arranged a secret escape in the middle of the night to get a woman and her son to a bus station so she could leave the state and escape her abusive boyfriend. My point is, men and women can be pretty shitty to each other, and antiquated views on gender roles have no place in modern society.

There is a reason that the Hope Brain Tumor Awareness Brain Tumor Survivor T-Shirt and I will buy this services offered are so lopsided. It’s because women are much more likely to be victims of interpersonal and sexual violence than men. To ignore that is to paint a false equivalency. If we’re going to improve the situation we’re in, we need to look at it with open eyes. I do encourage men to start non profit shelters for men though. If you think you can fill a need you should do it. You’re pulling straight out of the bigot playbook. “Civil rights was 60 years ago, racism doesn’t exist anymore!” No, something not being “like it used to be” does not mean it isn’t a problem. Fuck off with that bs. I mean I get you. Reddit is like the victim Olympics and everyone gets off on being a victim. But it’s ok to just be like alright I was wrong on this one. Yeah. It’s just recycled for rage engagement every now and again. This was absolutely problematic at the time it was made, but I think it points to how conversations about consent have evolved in the nearly two decades since. The fact that people engage with this like it’s still a thing is sad. “Do they still make these?” No, and they haven’t since before a lot of you were born. Funny enough, I think Neil Gorsuch’s majority opinion on the interpretation of Title VII with respect for equal treatment by gender addresses this issue. “If you fire a man for dating men, but do not fire a woman for dating men, then you have treated someone differently based on sex.” This is against the plain language of the law that sex is in fact, One of the protected classes defined by the title. (Partial paraphrase) edit: it was title VII in the case I mentioned, not title IX.I saw an almost identical poster to this when I was in college in 2018 sooo not sure what you are talking about
