Fashion plays an equally major role in Shine True. In one episode, guest Jaden shops for a new silhouette after a recent top surgery, while Azul gets fitted for a suit from a haberdashery shop, something that helps them evoke the Honey Dealer Bee T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this masculinity of their late father. Shazam emphasizes that clothes are a powerful way to express your identity and doing so can often be an emotional process. “For so many of us, it’s such a jarring, daunting task to feel affirmed through our clothing or find the right things that work for us,” says Shazam. “It allows us to present the way that we feel, finding the pieces that speak to us. We’re building a new relationship with clothing, our appearance, and really working on feeling confident because the world is constantly working against us.”

Fashionwise, Shazam leads by example with her glamorous, life-of-the-party style. She hosts each episode in an array of head-turning outfits, whether it is a bright pink suit by Area or a patchwork suit by downtown-beloved label Puppets & Puppets. She wanted to show a dreamy slice of possibilities to the Honey Dealer Bee T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this show’s guests. “We really wanted to play into queer fantasy and queer mysticism and use me as this vessel to tell all of these stories,” says Shazam. “I think they were able to dream, able to see me and be like, Whoa, if Richie can do it, I can do it too. It’s stepping into the fantastical because that’s such a big part of queerness.”
