My ADHD still fucks with me sometimes (often). But it fucks with me way less because of meditation. Even if my thoughts are racing, I’m getting pelted with a million things, I am so much better at noticing that I am wildly bouncing from thought to thought, and then I can better choose which to engage and which to table for later. Meditation taught me how to do that. I found using a guided meditation very helpful to start practicing. I downloaded an app called insight timer. And the only ones I ended up liking was Tara Brach’s meditations.

I think the jury is not fully in yet on whether or not mindfulness is workable with adhd. But to say it’s not appropriate is a massive oversimplification. A very long study that I’m excited to read more thoroughly which considers all the mechanisms of action of mindfulness, how those known mechanisms fit with adhd, reviewing some preliminary small studies (n<20) which show promise for mindfulness and adhd.
