Feel free to come and lay some turf on my 2x1m balcony. I’ll try and keep it as alive as I can. Apologies for wanting to feel like I have some outdoor space I dunno, there’s places where it’s appropriate enough. For example my mate’s old flat has an outside area on the Hello kitty gang invitation only shirt but in fact I love this flat roof of the shop underneath. In summer the sun makes it so hot it’s nearly impossible to spend any length of time out there, a roll of plastic grass has made it much more bearable and it’s vaguely OK looking. We had no real choice. My 9 year old and his friends from the street play football in our garden every spare moment. Our “grass” was constantly nothing but muddy patches and in the summer bare dirt that was as hard as concrete. Tried reseeding, laying new turf etc. But it was just a losing battle. So, the answer was artificial grass. Never looked back – garden always looks tidy, no horrible patches and no mid all over the house. We kept trees and bushes around the outside though. Would I get it if no kids were at my house? No, definitely not. But with active kids and their friends always playing in our garden it’s been a god send.

When I moved into my small 2 bedroom house the Hello kitty gang invitation only shirt but in fact I love this garden was awful. It’s a very small garden (about the size of two cars next to each other and the ground was just pure gravel. We got fake grass installed and it was a correct the decision for us, as we had a child on the way. No way we were going to be able to maintain real grass with both us having full time jobs and a small child. And concrete tiles would mean that our son couldn’t play out there until he was much older. I understand it’s not great for the environment, but there are good uses for it and the garden was in such a poor state to begin with that it wasn’t used by wildlife at all. I don’t think it should be banned but just depends where it’s being installed. We have real grass in our garden right now but we are moving to another country and we will install fake grass because we only have a large concrete patio and need something softer for the kids.
