To be fair, Hanni doesn’t deserve the hate. She never stated anything political herself, the picture where she hold a RoV flag was when she was a kid. If you are talking about the L’Officiel drama, I believe the reason for the hate wasn’t Hanni, instead it was the statement “past incidents that don’t deserve to be remembered”. Like, they are talking about our history, how the hell does history of a nation don’t deserve to be remembered. you know, that got me thinking.. with all that bs going on with Vietnamese politics and how it’s been taught by older generations (mostly).. you think Hanni gotten tired of it all and now she’s trying to “fit in” to a different group of people, community, or even society? Her being a kpop idol n all. That’s the way how I see it because I never see her embrace nor promote or share her Vietnamese roots. Maybe I’m just blind behind this hypothetical insight.. but also I’m in this same conflictive boat as a Viet-American so.. Her mother and grandparents are extreme anti-communists, you know, the same old “3 que”. Sure she can be influenced by that toxic political view, but there’s nothing to prove she is influenced. My dad is kind of racist and he look down on minor ethicnities, but my that doesn’t mean I’m racist too. My close friend is a Tay person. As for Hanni, tbh, I simply don’t care and don’t know much. She doesn’t contribute much to the Vietnam’s music industry, and I’m not a fan of Korean pop. I’ve only known her due to all the dramas and I just feel bad for her.
