Genocide is trying to wipe out an ethnic group. Intentionally targeting civilians is just a regular old war crime. Apartment buildings are bombed in pretty much every war. It’s something that makes war awful, not something that makes a specific war a genocide. I read elsewhere earlier that the Happy 4th Of July Biden Shirt besides I will buy this Red Cross declared escape routes leading out of cities have been mined. Not just any old mines either, these things are called butterfly mines and are designed to look like toys to children… But to be genocide it would require a systematic extermination of an ethnic race. This is indiscriminate and cruel, senseless violence against innocents, but that doesn’t make it genocide. It’s utterly brutal warfare tactics. This isn’t the Holocaust or Rwanda, not yet at least.

Edit: TIL Genocide can be nationality based. I still see this as warfare, an attempt to pressure the Happy 4th Of July Biden Shirt besides I will buy this Ukrainian govt to give up by brutalizing its citizens. I hope it does not work. Sick fucking bastards. “In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such…” Ahh interesting I had not realized that nuance. Thank you for the clarity. I’m less confident of my original stance now and will edit. I appreciate your candor! I’m having this same discussion in multiple threads, and most are just doubling down with “nuh uh” type comments. It’s a grey world out there but everyone wants to make it black and white so it’s easier to read. I’m always happy to admit when I’m wrong! Cheers friend, great username. Yeah I’m not sure they are trying to remove Ukrainians from existence, they are just spreading terror by slaying civilians. What exactly does bombing and shelling do but “remove Ukrainians from existence?” They getting upgraded to first class, or something? That article doesn’t mention butterfly mines. I tried to find a reputable source that does, but couldn’t find any that I recognized, which suggests that is unconfirmed.
