But I’m more uncomfortable with the proliferation of gun owners than I am a random and anonymous individual I know nothing about whose picture is being used as rage bait. A 2017 Harvard/Northeastern study found 8% of gun owners owned 10 or more weapons, accounting for 40% of the gun stock in civilian hands in the U.S.. The other 60% – north of 180 million firearms in the U.S. – are spread amongst the remaining owners (about 30% of Americans per a 2017 PEW research paper. The percentage is no doubt greater now, particularly with the upswing in liberal gun ownership.) The Harvard/Northeastern paper also observed “[t]his kind of concentrated ownership isn’t unique to guns … Marketing experts suggest that the most devoted 20% consumers will typically account for 80% of a product’s sales.” Again, it’s not the number of guns one person owns that dictates whether they are radicalized or mentally unstable.

FWIW I’m no fan of 2nd Amendment claims we have a right to own guns without regulation or restrictions. Pre 1970s, high court decisions on a state and Federal level were largely unanimous in concluding we did not have an unfettered “right to bear arms”.
