This is what’s being sold in the Happiest Mommy On Earth Mickey Shirt and I love this west a lot, but it is only fractionally true and not even the main point. The geopolitics here are much more complicated. Ukraine finding gas deposits in the Black Sea has significantly threatened Russia’s only real leverage in Europe’s economy; Russia’s economy has been declining (due to corruption and mismanagement) for decades and oil/gas is all they’ve got. It’s specifically why they took Crimea (to take those deposits – not because they need the resources but to eliminate the competition)…though the only fresh water supply to Crimea comes from Ukraine, which Ukraine has shut off. This has had a catastrophic effect on Crimea which is suffering through its worst draught in history.

Happiest Mommy On Earth Mickey Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

On top of that, the Happiest Mommy On Earth Mickey Shirt and I love this Black Sea is Russia’s main transportation route that connects it to the Middle East and Europe. Crimea was a big part of the puzzle and Ukraine is essentially crippling it. Add to that the decline and routing of Russian corruption and control in the Ukrainian government over the past decade (a certain “Paul Manafort” pops up around here), which has led Ukraine from being Russia controlled to pushing all the corrupt-Russian-paid extremists to the eastern borders and you have a country in a critical position becoming very friendly with all your rivals while your economy continues to piss down the drain. The NATO membership is one piece of a much larger puzzle. As with everything in the world today, it’s not about strategic military positioning but economic positioning and resource management. For anyone looking for a short history on this, check out this video. You might want to play it at 1.25 speed though.
