The point is that they have had their heads in the trough of power for a long period of time with weak opposition, and that is a great environment for corruption to flourish – in any party, any country. It’s the Grauation T-Shirt moreover I love this universally agreed upon term we use in any sort of political field to describe states in which only one party is allowed to exist. If you say ‘one party state’ to literally any human being they think you’re talking about Taliban Afghanistan, the USSR, Nazi Germany, China etc. Not a political system where shit opposition has led to one party winning lots of elections. Singapore. Nothing is stopping an opposition from existing, the ruling party is just popular. It happens sometimes. Singapore is not a one party state it is a dominant party state. A one party state means only the one party is permitted by law. A state in which one party dominates for a long period of time but does not prohibit opposition is called a dominant party state. You’re not wrong, but at the same time I don’t think the distinction is that meaningful in this shitshow of a thread, which is why I didn’t bother to clarify myself. Scotland and Singapore are both dominant party states to varying degrees (although this scandal might just change that for Scotland), I never claimed either was a one-party state.
