The shirt’s origins lie in 1967, when artist Stanley Mouse designed a poster for a Grateful Dead concert in San Francisco. The poster featured an image of a Native American chief, dubbed “Nate Moon,” with the text “Altamont Free Concert.” The concert was ultimately canceled, but the poster became immensely popular and has since become a collector’s item.

The design resonates with the band’s countercultural ethos and their connection to Native American spirituality.
