I know anecdotes aren’t evidence but in my experience, vegan-hating is much, much more common than people who talk about being vegan. In fact, all the Grandpa veteran gift dad grandpa veteran classic shirt in contrast I will get this vegan people I know try to keep their vegan diet a secret. Because they know that if they tell people, people often get angry and complain. In that way, I’d say vegan-bashing is more like a religion than veganism is. Especially on sites like Reddit. I’d say that all the esoteric claims around how we absolutely need to eat flesh are way closer to being religious than… not wanting to hurt animals unnecessarily. I’m not vegan, but I am vegetarian. The only time I mention it is when someone is ordering food for me, offering me food, or planning a function that involves food. Hey, it’s (a birthday/Thanksgiving/Christmas/the Super Bowl/whatever) and we’re getting together for food. “Okay, but I’m vegetarian.”

I’m guessing the Grandpa veteran gift dad grandpa veteran classic shirt in contrast I will get this people who hear me talk about it feel like I’m militant about it, but I never bring it up out of the blue. It’s just that so many social functions involve food. I think you nailed it actually. “How can you tell someone’s a vegan? They’ll tell you” is the result of two facts: Humans are biological creatures, like it or not we have to spend a lot of our day eating and planning out the next time we’ll get a meal. Food and discussions about food are unavoidable in any situation where people have to spend more than a few hours together. Do you actually get it though? It’s not about the food for vegans. It’s about stopping animal abuse. It’s just a political position with a lifestyle change that follows logically from it.
