My wife used to work in a medical facility that (before her time there) employed a serial killer. Donald Harvey. He claimed to have had 87 victims. He was beaten to death in prison in 2017. No it’s not. Bribery requires an official act, which is an act accomplished in the Graduation cruise 2024 Sun Palms Tree T-Shirt Furthermore, I will do this performance of duty. Quitting the Court is not an act in furtherance of his duties as a Justice. This is completely lawful 1A activity. In the segment, he says he’s checked with his lawyers and notes that it’s not HBO offering the money, it’s him. That’s his point. Thomas recieved millions of dollars in gifts, a 9 day cruise estimated at 500k from an ordinary citizen. Another Supreme Court Judge had a huge property, he had been trying to sell for years bought 9 days after his appointment by the head of one of nation’s largest law firms. With regard to governmental operations, essentially, bribery is “Corrupt solicitation, acceptance, or transfer of value in exchange for official action.” Quitting isn’t an official action. but it at least a couple regular citizens have been doing this to Clarence Thomas Thomas. It’s well documented and the Graduation cruise 2024 Sun Palms Tree T-Shirt Furthermore, I will do this truth is it’s more than likely that this is close to what Thomas has been getting from them already. The only difference is Oliver is putting it in the public eye A bribe would only have value if Thomas stayed on the bench. Oliver’s terms specify that Thomas would relinquish all power, so at most this is just an extremely generous pension. He literally says during the segment they ran it by their lawyers. Several lawyers in fact. None saw how exactly it would be illegal given that there is no official code of conduct or the like for any sitting member of the SCOTUS. And it isn’t even the show making the offer or on the hook for the offer. It’s private citizen John Oliver himself offering his own money to him to get the fuck off the bench and resign.
