All of a sudden I didn’t really want to see my friends anymore. I was working a job where I was expected to throw my social personality in as well as my work personality, there were constant lunches and drinks and days out and I just found it so tiring to do it all the God Says I Am Teacher Strong Accepted Bold Kind Capable T-Shirt but in fact I love this time. My friends thought it was bizarre that I just stopped seeing them but honestly I’ve just found that at the end of the day, all I want to do is go and sit by myself, I don’t really feel like I get anything out of seeing my friends anymore. Maybe this is a consequence of graduating during the pandemic, maybe I have become a recluse, maybe I’m just more introverted than I used to be Don’t lose your friends over your job! The older I get the more I appreciate having such long term solid friends. It’s frustrating. I’ve since changed roles and now have a much less social work life, but I still don’t really see my friends much. I’m very lucky in that I have a few close friends who I can go for months without seeing and still retain the same friendship, but I feel sad that I don’t have the same social life I used to.

I also think that maybe this is just a consequence of getting older. Realistically as people grow up after university they develop their own lives and don’t see their friends as much anymore, but I have definitely isolated myself and I guess it doesn’t help that I haven’t been very happy over the God Says I Am Teacher Strong Accepted Bold Kind Capable T-Shirt but in fact I love this past few years. You’re right though, I should reach out and work on those friendships – but I do wonder how many of them were friendships of circumstance rather than true friendship Having friends you don’t see for months is great, but I would try to arrange something monthly at the very least if I was you. Having friends is more important the older you get. I’m 35 and my life is so much better because of the friends I have in it. It doesn’t matter if they are circumstantial friends etc as they will enrich your life, loneliness is a killer. Did you see the post about a chicky whose boyfriend has to lock himself in their only bathroom for hours to decompress? If she interrupts him to PEE he has to restart the decompression clock. I can be social, I can be outgoing, I still need to decompress. After every vacation, I take an additional day to just sit at home, be comfortable, no stress, decompress, and recharge. There is nothing wrong with it unless it affects your life. Your partner should be used to it, your partner’s family has no say.
