Honestly it feels like we backslid and it’s getting worse. I see more blatantly racist/homophobic behavior on social media now than I did 10 years ago The GOP has put LGBTQ hatred on its platform in a big way, and when people feel they have free reign to hate on one group publically, and not receive backlash, they’re gonna start saying the Go Taylors Boyfriend Shirt Funny TS Inspired Shirt also I will do this quiet part out loud about a lot of other groups that they hate too I don’t think we are going backwards in the sense that there are more bigots now than there was before. it’s just that the bigots are getting more angry and forward because they are becoming even more of a minority than they were before and this is upsetting them. More people push back against them. *this also causes their kids, who are already going to be racist for the most part, to be more outward in their racism and to be more racist than if their parents hadn’t been so vocal with their own racism.

Was in a meeting at work a couple weeks ago. One of the partners at my firm (she’s very plugged in with Republican politics in Kentucky) was talking about a speech that Daniel Cameron (the Republican nominee for governor) had made the night before. She was going on and on about how good the speech was and how cool/smooth Cameron looked giving it. Trying to emphasize how smooth he was, she says “and he’s pretty good looking for a black man.” I internally cringed so hard. Like why do you even need to qualify that statement? As a straight white man, I have absolutely no problem recognizing when another man is handsome/pretty. And some of the prettiest men in the world, in my opinion, are black. Idris Elba and A$AP Rocky come to mind. Those are just some pretty motherfuckers (as Rocky will be sure to tell you).
