It’s been about 2 years now and I have to regretfully say it’s been absolutely fantastic. I hadn’t realised how much joy one individual can suck out of a social group. Every situation is different and I’m not saying what I did was correct. These events are what happened and these are my feelings towards the Gavin And Stacey Oh My Christ shirt Besides,I will do this outcome. I’m not an expert on depression so I won’t be speaking of that like other people in this thread but I do have experience growing apart with friends. I had a best friend of almost 15 years. We had some background differences but we bonded over our family dynamics being very similar. We were friends long before she met her boyfriend and before I moved away from our area. Once we grew up, we still kept in touch, met up every time I was visiting our area etc.

Cut to last September, she gets married, I attend her hendo and her wedding (both separate but within a month of each other, so you can imagine the Gavin And Stacey Oh My Christ shirt Besides,I will do this costs, time off work etc). Now truth of the matter is, I felt we were growing apart for a long time. I knew, at her wedding, that it would probably be the last time I saw her for a very long time – it’s understandable when our lives are so different, she’s married and pursuing a family whilst I have a high-pressure career. She stayed basically in our hometown whilst I moved away. We didn’t have anything to talk about anymore. That’s life – people grow apart, yes sometimes it’s sad but it’s just a fact of life. I eventually broke contact with the guy who was my best mate from my teens to my early twenties. He was always the ‘smart, sensible’ one except when it came to drinking. At first it was funny, we were teenagers so being able to get drunk was a novelty and the stories were funny. But he would always get blackout drunk, every time. He’d get upset and angry over stuff because he didn’t know how to regulate his emotions normally. So his release was booze. There was one time where my old man had to come collect us from a down the road (countryside) with a wheelbarrow (family party, he’d had a drink so couldn’t drive) with a wheelbarrow to push my friend home in because I couldn’t carry him. Another time he woke up in a strangers garden, and other times he’d woken up on the street to find his wallet and phone missing. The last straw was after a local beer festival a few years ago, we were back at my housemate’s place (who this best mate hadn’t met before) and he was sat at the end of the garden, drinking a bottle of my whisky and punching my friend’s fence. I was so embarrassed. So I basically just stopped messaging him. There were the odd birthday and Christmas messages here and there, met up for the odd drink over the years but it was clear there was little in common left between us, and eventually the texts petered out. His older sister and my older sister are still close friends so I do hear about his life from time to time. He’s getting married to someone he was at school with (godfather to her ex’s kids but that’s another story). He whatsapped me an invite to their wedding without any other text, just the image. It might seem quite cold but I blocked him after that. I don’t think he actually wants me at his wedding and it saves any further awkwardness. I’m sad about it but I got tired of covering for him and taking the brunt of his alcoholism.
