My (F) husband and I are couple friends with another M/F couple. We have a 4 person group chat and if I want to talk to the M of our friend couple, or vice versa, we do so in the group chat. However, I text the F friend independently, and my husband texts the M friend independently. None of us are jealous or thinking we’re going to cheat on each other, but I would find it weird if my husband was texting my female friend (aside when they’re planning surprises for me, obviously;) ) frequently in the same way he texts just his own friends who he has established relationships with outside of us as a couple. For me, it seems like a sign of respect for your partner. If I ever do text his M friends (usually for a specific reason, such as they’re asking questions specific to my industry, or planning surprises for their F partners I’m friends with, etc), I make sure to mention it to him and let him know what we talked about. It just feels like an easy way to keep open communication and trust.

I find it odd for a different reason. He might not be trying to get with OP, but OP is not his friend, she is his wife’s close friend.
