Think about it. If you had a device that could crash a plane they wouldn’t let you have it Old USA-made altitude sensors were pretty crap RF-wise and use frequencies they are not supposed to be using. Those frequencies then overlap with some mobile phone bands and potentially can lead to aircraft showing wrong altitude – that would be pretty big deal when landing so they chose to blanket-ban mobiles instead of fixing altimeters, because lots of aircraft would need to be re-certified and stuff.
