As I understand, Scientologists are forbidden from relationships with “suppressive persons,” which they officially define as sociopaths, essentially, but in practice means people who actively oppose Scientology. Scientology does not consider the vast majority of non-Scientologists to be suppressive persons. There are a great many examples of Scientologists being in relationships with non-Scientologists. Just for one, the most famous Scientologist, Tom Cruise, was married to Nicole Kidman for 11 years. Kidman doesn’t like talking about Scientology, but there isn’t any solid evidence that she ever practiced it. (She has always been a devoted Catholic, though it must be said that Scientology doesn’t consider practicing other religions to be in conflict with Scientology.) Their marriage appears to have ended when she crossed a line and was designated a suppressive person for trying to get Cruise to leave the church.
