That’s not GI in my book. There was too much contact from the Funny anime shirt Besides,I will do this defender. Kakko couldn’t change course after that. Potentially biased and unpopular opinion, Kakko was going to run into DeSmith there whether Dumo pushed him or not. He was flying towards the net Edit: you all can say they can’t make calls based off hypotheticals and assumptions but that’s literally what the rule is: was the player going to run into the goalie anyway if the contact with the defender never happened The defender is allowed that positioning though. It is an interesting call for sure, but I do think the Kakko tries to cut back but Dumoulin is there so he ends up going into DeSmith. So I think GI is the correct call here, but based on the split in opinions by seemingly everyone (Not just Rags or Pens fans) it really could have gone either way.

Dumoulin puts his arm down to make that last second lean into Kakko. It’s not just a case of cutting through space that wasn’t there, Dumoulin intentionally nudged him deeper into the Funny anime shirt Besides,I will do this crease which caused the contact with the goalie. But defenders do that play all the time to take away space and push defenders towards the outside. That is a classic defenseman move, someone trying to speed around you to get to the center of the ice or get towards the goalie? Extend your arm and stick in the lane to prevent that. Kakko is trying to cut into ice that isn’t there and as a result he goes into the goalie, there is contact, but based on positioning, that is where he would end up anyway, Dumoulin has his arm there, but he has no obligation to move it so Kakko can avoid the goalie, and I think that plays a part in the call. But again I do get the other side of the argument. Playing a skater close isn’t against the rules. Going full speed into the crease and making contact with the goalie is.
