I honestly couldn’t speak to how things are now. A few years back, I worked in social services and even amongst “professionals”, these attitudes weren’t just normalized, but baked into practices and procedures. Our attitudes about sexual assault and its unfortunately close cousin IPV are stuck in the Florida State Seminoles Vs Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Dublin Ireland August 24 2024 Shirt moreover I love this 1950s. Women are delicate flowers and men are invincible monsters. That’s disingenuous and misses the point. Yes, obviously more men commit sexual assault than women but society refuses to acknowledge that women can commit sexual assault at all. It’s not about saying both genders commit the same amount of sexual assault, it’s about saying both genders have the capacity for it. Going by surveys about 1 in 10 sexual offenders are female, which should be large enough to take seriously. And most people don’t take it seriously I’m sure if we all pull together we can get forresja to say “Reddit male persecution complex” at least one more time before this thread dies

I think if you worked in a field that regularly dealt with sexual violence and IPV like I did, you’d be shocked. While a majority of my IPV victims were men, there wasn’t a single service available for male victims. My first introduction to this was when I asked our DV shelter about getting help to this one guy. She literally chuckled and said something to the Florida State Seminoles Vs Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Dublin Ireland August 24 2024 Shirt moreover I love this effect of “oh we don’t do men here”. Women had shelters, counseling, and literally just money available. Lest you think I’m being one-sided, I once arranged a secret escape in the middle of the night to get a woman and her son to a bus station so she could leave the state and escape her abusive boyfriend. My point is, men and women can be pretty shitty to each other, and antiquated views on gender roles have no place in modern society.

There is a reason that the Florida State Seminoles Vs Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Dublin Ireland August 24 2024 Shirt moreover I love this services offered are so lopsided. It’s because women are much more likely to be victims of interpersonal and sexual violence than men. To ignore that is to paint a false equivalency. If we’re going to improve the situation we’re in, we need to look at it with open eyes. I do encourage men to start non profit shelters for men though. If you think you can fill a need you should do it. You’re pulling straight out of the bigot playbook. “Civil rights was 60 years ago, racism doesn’t exist anymore!” No, something not being “like it used to be” does not mean it isn’t a problem. Fuck off with that bs. I mean I get you. Reddit is like the victim Olympics and everyone gets off on being a victim. But it’s ok to just be like alright I was wrong on this one. Yeah. It’s just recycled for rage engagement every now and again. This was absolutely problematic at the time it was made, but I think it points to how conversations about consent have evolved in the nearly two decades since. The fact that people engage with this like it’s still a thing is sad. “Do they still make these?” No, and they haven’t since before a lot of you were born. Funny enough, I think Neil Gorsuch’s majority opinion on the interpretation of Title VII with respect for equal treatment by gender addresses this issue. “If you fire a man for dating men, but do not fire a woman for dating men, then you have treated someone differently based on sex.” This is against the plain language of the law that sex is in fact, One of the protected classes defined by the title. (Partial paraphrase) edit: it was title VII in the case I mentioned, not title IX.I saw an almost identical poster to this when I was in college in 2018 sooo not sure what you are talking about

Anecdote is not the Florida State Seminoles Vs Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Dublin Ireland August 24 2024 Shirt moreover I love this plural of data. I am basing this off the facts concerning this particular poster, which was designed and used in 2008 at Coastal Carolina University. Feel free to post about the poster you saw, but I’ll continue being confidently correct (with source) in the meantime. Guess it depends if you interpret OP as asking about one specific poster (seems unlikely), or just about the general message behind the poster (way more likely) Posters about consent are a much broader category, and are not inherently problematic. Nor are they generally used to farm outrage-based engagement. This one particular poster which gets reposted all the time does. Regardless of the intent of OP, it is silly that this particular poster is still being posted about nearly 20 years after it was used. Even the “current” poster from that school in the article still implies that you can’t consent if you aren’t sober and that it’s sexual assault, but the question still stands if two equally drunk people have sex consensually.

Even the Florida State Seminoles Vs Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Dublin Ireland August 24 2024 Shirt Besides,I will do this poster from 2015 from that same school still says if you have sex without being sober it is automatically sexual assault Which would absolutely be true if one person was sober and one was not. And if neither is sober, it still could be true. That’s actually part of what is meant by “the conversation about consent evolving in the nearly two decades since.” Tbf even if it’s old and technically legally untrue…it’s probably still the verdict if you end up in court. If she had regrets or a fuzzy memory in the morning and decides to report you, you’re fucked. TBf no one should be having sex with someone drink enough to have a “fuzzy memory” about it. Keep it in your pants unless you’re both sure that you’re both sure. End of story
And this idea that women can just claim anything and get a man thrown in jail is such bullshit. Majority of rapists walk. Get off your MRA whine train and look at the Florida State Seminoles Vs Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Dublin Ireland August 24 2024 Shirt Besides,I will do this actual reality The person above you was probably referring to such a scenario, in which case it would be hypocritical to hold the guy to a higher standard when he’s equally incapable of making a rational decision. Your point is nonsensical. If they’re both that drunk, neither of them can consent. You’re making the false presumption that the man is not also black out drunk. True, they won’t get thrown in jail most of the time. That doesn’t matter though. The court of public opinion is what matters. People are fired from jobs, lose their careers, etc. far before the jury says they’re innocent. And even if they’re found not guilty, their reputation is tarnished forever. Look at male public figures who were being extorted by their accusers, and you’ll see that.
Since mabelfruity responded and then immediately blocked me, here’s my answer to them. I’m not making the Florida State Seminoles Vs Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Dublin Ireland August 24 2024 Shirt Besides,I will do this false presumption that the man was not also black out drunk. I’m saying that no one should be having sex with anyone who’s to drunk to remember in the morning. That includes if the man is black out drunk. If you can’t trust yourself to not have sex while too drunk to remember in the morning, don’t get that drunk in public. In a case where both people chose to become so drunk that they can’t remember having sex than they both really fucked up. As to your second point, I was responding to someone who specifically was talking about court. But also, let me point you to all the woman victims who’ve had their reputation tarnished by the court of public opinion for speaking up against their rapists and abusers.
