Was this handprint made with paint or grease? Some substance that doesn’t easily wipe clean? Is the Florida Football Ricky Pearsall NCAA shirt and I love this expectation that you’ll never touch the car exterior while fixing the engine? Cause that’s unrealistic as fuck. Check your local apprenticeship laws & employment contract but generally, even in apprenticeships, the employer can’t deduct a error from an employee’s check. It’s part of running a business that employees will make mistakes. The severity of the mistake will decide if disciplinary action, if any, is taken. And based on what you’ve provided, you boss overreacted, big time (IMO). it was a bit of soap. i literally washed my hands like crazy and as i was opening the door to get into the car. it was a black car and the soap we use is just conventional soap, it doesn’t have anything that would stain the car Your boss definitely over redacted. A soapy handprint will wipe right off. No need to detail the whole f-ing car.

If it made it to where the Florida Football Ricky Pearsall NCAA shirt and I love this customer saw the handprint and complained then a full detail to maintain good will could make sense, but OP should not have been forced to pay for it. Whoever was suppose to do the checklist/QC before releasing the car to the customer is at least as much at fault, if not more. edit for clarity yea. i’m not great at detailing so it took me a while but our detailer was on lunch so i had to do it. it wasn’t that bad but usually if i have to pay for something it’s not that expensive so i was a bit annoyed that a detail is 150 bucks I had a GM who wanted to give the entire restaurant their meal for free because a bat flew into the open patio for a moment. That’s just overreacting and bad management. Start with the easiest, simplest fix, which is to apologize and move on. Your boss is bad at their job and depending on the state you’re in they are stealing from you. Check your local laws, report them if you can.
