I don’t see how anyone could accept that offer unless they had a roommate or partner with a much better paying job, tbh. The norm here is that you need to prove good credit AND at least 3x rent in monthly income, and being able to have a co-signer is becoming less and less of a common option. Doubling their investment simply because they were born earlier and had a chunk of cash for down payment… notably a much smaller chunk than you’d need to buy a house today. There’s simply no such thing as a fine little starter home anymore. Busted trailers are going for $250k in their area. They know full well on some level that it can’t be a good thing to have Millennials and Gen Z totally priced out of the housing market, but they’re all just too happy to gloat sit on their ‘investment earnings.’

My mom’s in her 60s, and I have these conversations with her near daily about everything. “It’s so expensive!” Eggs, shoes, rent, electronics, any ole thing, that’s always her go to shock. Yeah, mom. Everything’s expensive, that’s greed for you. I mean “inflation”. My mom was born in 1959. My brother paid $2k while working at BestBuy for minimum wage, fuck the rich and fuck boomers. Abusive father still saw him as a failure. My former 80 year old boss would ask everyone he hired how much rent was. He was always shocked but I thought that was a decent thing for a boss to do. Never reflected on good pay though. So idk, maybe that actually makes it worse lol.
