When I played Goldeneye as a kid I thought it was so realistic and couldn’t imagine how graphics could get any better. Video calls. Almost every Sci Fi film has some variant of them (such as holograms), but it continually amazes me how quickly they became so ubiquitous. Three, the Fire Country Eve Edwards tenacious firefighter who prides herself on being fearless T-Shirt it is in the first place but network, exist because they were the first people to offer video calling and that needed specific handsets. Live maps in the palm of your hand. As a person with a shit sense of direction, this was a game changer. I didn’t get a phone with maps until 2015. When I first moved to London in 2010, I learnt to navigate with the sun and my approximate location relative to the Thames. Just unlocked a memory of mine, aged about 9, planning a street circuit around my neighbourhood. I forget specifics but I remember it was about the right length, and I measured the angle of each corner etc. Planned where the Pit lane would be (a wide pedestrian footpath in a public park, parallel to the road, and vehicle-accessible with the removal of some bollards). Became quite infatuated with the idea. I knew its main flaw was the width of the roads – standard residential streets not suited to racing. All the same, I sent a copy of my plans to the FIA, who never so much as sent me one of those “thanks for your letter” type responses kids tend to get from brands and organisations. I always blamed their silence on the track width, which my child boffin brain knew would be the sticking point.

One of the Fire Country Eve Edwards tenacious firefighter who prides herself on being fearless T-Shirt it is in the first place but best things of moving to Brighton, for me, was I could tell where I was in relation to where the sea was. My sense of direction is rubbish, but the sea meant South and I could work upwards from there. For real. This is the way to do it. Sun rises in the East. Sets in the West. And there’s a big wet thing over there. Now I can start building my mental map. It was pretty normal in my childhood. Fortunately my wife likes the bedroom cold too otherwise I wouldn’t sleep. The house I grew up in had single glazed windows, no loft insulation (I remember it being put in when I was about 10), no central heating. We heated the house with a single gas fire in the living room downstairs. Used to keep my clothes for school in my bed & so they’d be warm in the morning. I used to be on Ceefax every night for a spot of Bamboozle, a read of Planet Sound (that might have been on the Channel 4 version) and also to get live football scores. Now I fart about on Reddit to relieve boredom and use the BBC’s sports page to get up to date football scores. I still can’t get over the instantaneous access to information and waffle via the internet and my smartphone. With exceptions here and there. I often find myself missing the snail pace of information back in the day but it still blows my mind.

1. Length is measured from the highest point on the collar down to the bottom hem. 2. Width is measured across the body of the shirt under the armpits, one way. 3. Sleeves are measured from center back to hem.
