When people say “men and women can’t just be friends” it reminds me of the Fear both the heat and the cold of your heart patience if you can Tolkien quote T-Shirt in contrast I will get this “good ol’ days” when people justified women not being allowed to work in male dominated industries because women would be a “distraction”. To those people: Grow up. Have some respect for people. If the most interesting thing about you is your penis/vagina get a hobby. The rest of us will be friends with people who are kind, interesting, and fun to be around. Personally, I interpret people of this belief to be the red flag. Don’t need that kind of insecurity in my life. Close friends are among the most precious things in the world, regardless of gender, age or colour. Appreciate them, be there for them and with a bit of effort, they can last a lifetime. There are people who are not secure enough in themselves nor their relationship to accept that people can be friends with someone from a gender that they are sexually and romantically attracted to. As a straight dude, people think that we only have sex on our minds (not true, it’s only about 90% of the time /s) and are thus incapable of any extended interaction and connection with a woman without wanting to bang them or secretly be in a relationship with them.

From my experience, ignore the Fear both the heat and the cold of your heart patience if you can Tolkien quote T-Shirt in contrast I will get this people who say those things. You know what your intentions are, it is up to you to make sure those intentions are known and communicated to the other person and anyone else that it could meaningfully impact, such as your girlfriend or fiance. Literally does not matter for a second what other people think or perceive Because those people are still very insecure. Just cherish your friends. They get increasingly rare as you get older. Because some people are incapable of believing that a guy and a girl can have a platonic relationship. It’s a very narrow world view. I wouldn’t worry about it, yes it’s going to put some people off but they’re the people who are going to act jealous and possessive in a relationship anyway so you’re better off without.
