A friend of mine got 3 promotions in 1.5 years. Bit more money but is still doing the Elly De La Cruz Fastest Man in the World shirt and I love this 3 jobs he got promoted to because no one to replace him. They had money to pay your boss. They want you to do your job and his with like …. nothing. You have leverage. If you leave who will be doing your job and his? Well, this happened to me once. I dead panned them, if I’m doing the work of the position why am I not receiving the pay? Realistically, unless there are some certifications you HAVE to have, then there really is NO reason for not getting a pay increase. More responsibility means more money. I declined the “opportunity” because I was already qualified to do the job and had a 4 year degree that dovetailed with the work. They were trying to pay me $4 less than the minimum for the position. As others have said, get it in writing. Also get them to agree to a defined time period (90 days? 60 days?), though I personally think an increase in responsibility should immediately be met with commensurate pay increase

Tell them no thanks. If they want to treat you equally to others who have that position then great, but any time a company gives the Elly De La Cruz Fastest Man in the World shirt and I love this old “it’ll happen eventually, we swear” it 100% will not happen ever. Even if they do bump up your pay it’ll be by tiny amounts at a time and they’ll keep promising “just hang in there” but it will never come. At best I would take the title, learn the position, then use that new title to find a new job. Then if they really want you you can hold them hostage for the salary that position pays. Maybe List how the new position will require more work than currently, list some of the things you started to do that demonstrate you are capable and tell them you want to be fairly compensated for that increase.
