Alice + Olivia quality can be absolutely garbage. I’m sure some of their stuff is good (and all of it looks stunning style-wise), but they also do not stand behind their products at all. One example out of several: I have a brand new sweater with a random section that absolutely fell apart under my fingers, like paper thin threads. I assumed it was a manufacturing defect and tried to return it. Ignore this if you don’t want a rant, but I figured NBD, most brands would take it back no problem. When I called, I talked to the Drink Only From The Nectar Of Life Hummingbird Spirit White Letters T-Shirt besides I will buy this person who enthusiastically sold it to me and she completely switched to this odd, patronizing, defensive mode. She told me she helped me try it on, so I had an opportunity to see the damage (which didn’t exist yet), asking with a horrible tone “is it on the front?” yes, “did you look in the mirror?” yes, “well then it sounds like it’s not our fault because the damage happened after you left the store and when you left it was not damaged”. Yes, it did happen after I left, and I was upfront about that. If their quality was so amazing and this was just a fluke, there’s no way I could’ve managed to put a hole in this sweater by just touching it, and by the way she was so ready for a fight, it seemed like this was pretty common.

I was in their physical store a month ago, and holy crap. The amount of polyester clothing sold for hundreds of dollars!! I have spent a lot of money on ‘well made’ clothing and also a lot of time researching whats ‘good’ and what isn’t. I am no expert, but here is my little list (probably forgetting some): Margaret Howell – I love this brand for their knitwear and menswear-inspired cuts. I live in an extremely cold climate/we only get a couple of warm months a year. My Margaret Howell pieces saved me this year. They are made in England and go on sale a couple of times a year. I’ve also seen a lot of good pieces being resold on Vestaire Collective, The Real Real, etc. House of Dagmar – Really nice workwear pieces + knits. Recently acquired a pair of organic wool and cotton trousers from this brand (on clearance at Ssense) and the Drink Only From The Nectar Of Life Hummingbird Spirit White Letters T-Shirt besides I will buy this craftsmanship is beautiful. I also own a chunky wool cardigan from them. I’ve noticed that most of their clothes are made in Italy.
