I grew up in a house with roaches and a dozen leaks in the Drake Bulldogs NCAA women’s basketball 2023 2024 post season shirt also I will do this roof so every time it rained we had to put out buckets to catch it so it didn’t destroy the floorboards worse than it already had. I never really thought much about it, it was just how you lived. But when i’d watch TV, i’d see other people that didn’t live that way and it kind of made me realize it wasn’t always like that. But even after I knew it wasn’t normal, it was still normal to me, so I still didn’t really feel poor or anything even though intellectually I knew that I was. It was only after getting out of that situation and living a more normal life did I really start to reflect and look back and realize just how bad I had it.

I felt that I had a genuine understanding of middle class was when I was a teen. I knew how much $60-$80k was. Idk why, but I was looking at rents in places I liked even as a teenager. I went to college and knew a kid who said that one summer their dad’s company was doing poorly so they had to do vacation at their lake house instead of a trip to Europe. So yeah. There are wealthy people who are fully grown 24 year olds that still think they’re “salt of the Drake Bulldogs NCAA women’s basketball 2023 2024 post season shirt also I will do this earth, blue collar, working men” but own multiple homes and got a brand new $50k truck at 16. Edit: I’m not poor at all. We typically had a vacation every year. Parents made about $80-$90k combined, w/ 3 kids. We had a lot of “can’t afford that” moments, but that doesn’t make us poor. I was never hungry once. Even as a young person, I knew how fortunate I was and how unfair it was for others.
